We are a group of Ethiopian adoptees who understand the importance of finding family for both sides, adoptees and biological family.  Unfortunatly most adoptees do not have accurate files or even falsified files which makes it harder to start a search. As for the biological family often there is no contact with the adoption agency who processed the adoption and in the few cases where they were informed where their child went, they were lied to. Also another very important fact is that the clock is ticking for a lot of the 'first' adoptees (70's, 80's, 90's). Because of these reasons we've came up with the Blen DNA project. Our focus is to reunite families through DNA. We have set up a central point in Addis Abeba where biological families in Ethiopia can sign up for a free DNA test. In the Netherlands adoptees can purchase their own test. After receiving the test results these will be uploaded to a commercial DNA database in order to the biggest chance of having a close match. The project is based on a 'pay it forward' kind of principle that means that we ask everyone who purchases a DNA test to donate one for the biological families.
